FYI – SFU The Writer’s Studio 1st Book Competition

FYI is not just an annoying acronym that I like to use. Through these FYI blogs, I’m hoping to bring to light those awards, competitions, callouts, etc. that may prove useful to Ricepapaperians (my new nickname for our Ricepaper community – what, can you think of a better one?). Many of our Ricepaperians are aspiring, emerging and established writers, artists, and performers as well as community leaders. I’m hoping that those who are just browsing on our website and have no idea what Ricepaper is (“Is it actually made out of ricepaper?” [No.]) will find these posts beneficial as well. If you have any competitions or awards that you think would be useful, please send them our way (info@ricepapermagazine.ca).

To find all “FYI” blogs, just do a search in the search bar on the top right hand corner.

Now, to start on the actual blog entry.

For all aspiring and emerging writers who have not yet published a book, details for the 1st book competition have arrived from The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University:

“The Writer’s Studio is in its tenth year, and we have developed a competition to celebrate.  We are asking for authors to submit never-before published manuscripts in fiction, poetry and/or creative non-fiction, for a national manuscript competition — The Writer’s Studio First Book Awards in 2010. The winning manuscripts in each genre will be published by Anvil Press in 2011.  Manuscripts must be received by May 31, 2010 and via post (manuscripts will not be returned).

We have also posted a 40 page manual on how to submit your work to Canadian journals, magazine and literary competitions as a free pdf on our website (http://www.thewritersstudio.ca/).”

More details about the 1st book competition are located here.
