Open casting call for role of Tam in Miss Saigon (Toronto)2 min read

Hi parents, got any adorable tots who are natural performers? Dancap Productions is casting the role of Tam in Toronto for Miss Saigon. I’d want to see this if I was in Toronto. I first saw the original Miss Saigon – Lea Salonga – in a special repeat performance at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila. The musical itself has sometimes been accused of perpetuating the submissive Asian female stereotype; however, in my mind, it’ll always be associated with catchy songs and a Filipina who made it big on London’s West End.

OPEN CASTING CALL

Dancap Productions Inc., in association with Pittsburgh CLO, is presenting a new production of the Tony Award®-winning sensation MISS SAIGON, from July 9 to August 1, 2010, at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

Dancap is casting two Asian boys or girls for the role of young Tam.  This is a non-speaking but highly visible and pivotal role.  The children must appear to be within the age range of 6-10 years old and be no taller than 3’6″.  Anyone who does not meet these requirements will be not be considered.

The children should wear clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in, as well as clean, covered shoes (i.e., running shoes or dance shoes).  The children do not need to prepare as they will be taught movement during the audition.  It is important to bring a photo (it doesn’t have to be a professional head shot) and a resume that includes age, height, weight and any theatrical/stage credits.  Rehearsals will take place July 5-8 with performances running from July 9 to August 1.

Auditions will take place Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, 55 Mill Street, Building 49 in the Distillery District.  Please register at dancapproductions.com/casting. Your audition time will be confirmed by email closer to the audition date.
