May 21st, Friday, 7pm, Rhizome Cafe, 317 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC
Come and celebrate the issue launch of 15.2 RepresentASIANS with the staff, volunteers and contributors of Ricepaper Magazine, your favourite (and might I add, only) Asian Canadian arts and culture literary magazine.
The night includes:
– readings/performances by acclaimed poets and writers Ray Hsu, Rita Wong, Tara Lee and artist Chloe Chan.
– raffle draw with prizes:
=> 2 festival passes to the New Asia Film Festival (happening next week, May 27-30) as well as 2 memberships to the Cinevolution Media Arts Society. Total value $170.
=> Lydia Kwa’s brand new novel, Pulse (the launch party for Pulse was also at Rhizome just a few days ago on Sunday)
=> Ray Hsu’s new book, Cold Sleep Permanent Afternoon
=> A prize pack from Fuzzy Logic Records including CDs from indie bands such as Prairie Cat, The Bicycles, and The Midways
=> 1 year Ricepaper Magazine subscription
– artwork auction or raffle draw including works by Lydia Fu (who also designed our great cover–to the top right), Chloe Chan, and Vanessa Lowe.
Emceed by comedian, radio host, and filmmaker Tetsuro Shigematsu
Admission by donation (no one turned away for lack of funds): $5-$20 ($10+ includes a copy of the RepresentASIANS issue).
Besides enjoying an evening of lively entertainment and a copy of the magazine, your $10-20 donation also helps to support the next issue!
Rhizome Café has food and drink available for purchase throughout the night and is fully licensed.
Please forward this invite and bring your friends! More details to come!
RSVP on our Facebook event page or just show up!
