There was something silent,
Splendid,
About the way night descended,
Intent and inevitable, it
Fell upon me-
Stone monkey, once equal to heaven,
Banished years ago,
Today freed.

But the walk is drawn
From weight of a mortal, and the time feels long, stretched
From weary feet and tender eyes that ache for sleep,
Wits tense and wary through Demons Gorge
That thirsted for sweet flesh
Of a brother forged,
Journey unending.

So I closed my eyes,
Floated onward to the skies,
Strings tangled, a journey fabled
Of fate I had believed –
I once held!

And yet,
At a call by light,
Awoke to emptiness, past night,
Found the path already stable,
Waiting for me
To walk
West.
