It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dr. Eury Chang. Eury, a Vancouver-born theatre artist, and scholar completed his MA in Theatre Studies in 2013 and began his Ph.D. candidacy shortly after.  In 2013, he was awarded the Errol Durbach Graduate Scholarship in Theatre.  His doctoral work was passionately devoted to addressing the lack of documentation of the important contributions of Asian Canadian Playwrights to the professional theatre in this country. Eury was a member of the Public Scholars Initiative in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and was also a sessional faculty member in the Theatre Studies department.

Eury worked as a professional writer/editor, performance dramaturge, and tour manager in the non-profit arts sector.  In addition to being an editor at Ricepaper Magazine from 2008 to 2012, Eury was the Artistic Director of Creative Dominion, an intercultural, interdisciplinary theatre company based in Vancouver.   He also served on peer juries for the Canada Council for the Arts, the BC Arts Council, and The City and District of North Vancouver.

So sorry to hear of Eury’s passing. It seems he was way to young and had much more to give to the arts and literacy community.
