Call for Submissions: Yearning1 min read

We are now accepting submissions for our upcoming issue centred around the theme of yearning—that deep, aching pull toward something just out of reach. Whether it’s the quiet longing for a place you once called home, an unspoken desire, or the sharp hunger for change, we want work that aches, stretches, and reaches.

Yearning can be tender or wild, slow-burning or explosive. It can be for a person, a time, a truth, a future that refuses to arrive. We’re looking for writing and art that captures this universal yet deeply personal human experience.

We welcome:

  • Poetry

  • Fiction (flash or short stories)

  • Creative nonfiction

  • Visual art & photography

  • Hybrid and experimental forms

Submission Guidelines:

  • Queries and submissions can be sent to submissions@ricepapermagazine.ca
    Deadline closes September 30, 2025.

  • Find our submission guidelines here.

  • Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.

I appreciate Ricepaper Journal for providing a platform to voice a yearning for independent thought and free expression in the land I once called home. This theme resonates deeply, and I’m grateful for the space to share and explore such personal longings.
