International Day of the Girl is celebrated on October 11th annually and its purpose is to honour girls’ rights and promote their empowerment. A former Canadian Member of Parliament, Rona Ambrose, led a global movement to establish this day, which was formally adopted by the United Nations in 2011.
Rebel Girls, a global multi-platform empowerment brand dedicated to helping raise the most inspired and confident global generation of girls, has partnered exclusively with Indigo, Canada’s leading book and lifestyle retailer, alongside My Little Pony, to host Rebel Girls Fest: Be the Change in Canada on October 8, 2022 at 87 of Indigo’s stores.
Rebel Girls Fest: Be the Change will include story time, activities and a take home goodie bag for every child which includes Rebel Girls’ latest book, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girl: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers, which celebrates 100 young women and girls under the age of 30 who are creating change in the world today and includes a foreward by conservationist Bindi Irwin. Attendees can also participate in fun crafts, activities and special giveaways, including items from partner My Little Pony.
Good Night Stories for Rebel Girl: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers includes a number of Asian changemakers, including Alexandra Huynh, an 18-year-old Vietnamese – American who has been named the new National Youth Poet Laureate; and Amber Yang, an 18-year-old Stanford student who made Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List for creating a program that can predict the future position of space junk with 98% accuracy.
