“If you feel lost, disappointed, hesitant, or weak, return to yourself, to who you are, here and now and when you get there, you will discover yourself, like a lotus flower in full bloom, even in a muddy pond, beautiful and strong.”

We invite you to submit your unpublished work to the theme of “Return.” Whether it is heroes returning home in ancient Greek literature or Evelyn Wang frantically verse-jumping parallel universes to discover past and future life choices that could create a new alternative universe in Everything Everywhere All at Once, returning to an idyllic past has long been an aspiration of the human condition. As we return to a disheveled life disrupted by the pandemic, how have you looked back at the past and peered into the future as a way to reshape your literary worlds?
We are looking for short stories, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama excerpts, photo essays, interviews, and manga/comics. We accept writing from authors of all cultural backgrounds, however, the focus of the issue concentrates on roots from across the Pacific, including East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian writers.
Deadline closes May 31, 2023.
