As some of you may remember, Sook-Yin Lee is a former MuchMusic VJ. She was also profiled by Adrian Mack in last year’s 14.3 Space Culture Place issue.

She has since parlayed into movie and television roles across Canada. Opening June 18^th, her latest movie Year of the Carnivore opens in select theatres in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. She talks about her movie in the issue, Space Culture Place:

“[Lee] was working on a new solo album when the funding for Carnivore was secured. But music was also essential to the process of writing the film, she reveals. ‘Film very much borrows the same part of my imagination and brain that music does,’ she says, ‘so there’s this certain sense of timing, tempo and mood, and this certain quality in just a melody that’s almost like poetry in that it’s not completely rational, but it’s emotive through non-verbal means.’ To that end, Lee found herself listening obsessively to three particular songs, again and again, as she tapped out the screenplay to her first full-length movie.”

A short synopsis:
It’s about a girl in love with a boy who thinks she’s bad in bed so she goes out to get more “experience”. It’s a looking-for-love-but-making-a-ton o’ mistakes story
